Come to the City of Langley, British Columbia. It has a rich cultural history, a great sense of community, parks & nature, and proximity to other great areas in the lower mainland.
The downtown core of Langley is very easy to get around in and had every possible amenity. It also has all kinds of schools as well at Kwantlen University and Trinity Western University. There are small shops and stores, large retailers, antique stores, and a wide selection of restaurants.
The Townshop features a number of local wineries, a few hundred acres of beautiful parkland, farms, nurseries, and a great arts community. Every season in Langley features great local events and activities.
Langley was originaly known as Innes Corners and was later changed to Langley Prairie after the local post office moved to town. This was in 1911. In 1910, the BC Electric Railway or Inter-Urban railroad was constructed and it resulted in a huge growth in the Langley region. The area that is along Old Yale Rd was the one of the first areas that attracted trade in the region and continued to grow over the years. In 1955, the City of Langley was officially incorporated as a different municipailty to the Township of Langley. The region saw continued growth and the demand for higher levels of service in the area began.
The population of the city started with around 2000 people and quickly grew to 24,000.
The Langley Coat of Arms represents the the crossroads of Glover Rd and Fraser Hwy and the horizontal BC Electric Railway across it. In the center is the blue star that represents the centre of the crossroads which Inness Corners. Inness was named after Adam Inness, an early Langley pioneer and landowner for which the original city was named.
Langley citizens have the best of both worlds as they can visit great local amenities as well as having a rich history and heritage of farms and agriculture.
